Open House Weekend at Severn Valley Railway
16th & 17th April 2016

This weekend the club attended the annual Open House Weekend at Highley Engine House. It was a roaring success with hundreds of happy visitors enjoying great weather, superb layouts, wonderful full size steam locos and a diesel.

Lewis Maddox the event organizer had invited a few model railway clubs to display their layouts in between the static exhibits and locomotives in the superb venue, with a few more at Kidderminster Station. EMRC were fortunate to have been asked to bring two layouts to Highley, Meres & Mosses Light Railway and Jim & Jacob's Brewery Lane.

I'd like to take this opportunity to express our thanks and appreciation to Lewis and the SVR for not only inviting us, but for looking after us so well and making the weekend a real pleasure. We have already been invited back for 2017 and all of us look forward to it.

Over the two days, we had several hundred people who wanted to chat and ask about the layouts, how they were constructed and what materials were used for the foliage and especially the water areas. Many recognized the areas of the Meres & Mosses LR and were amazed that a light railway was used on the moss works area at Whixall to help with the extraction and moving of peat.

Over the weekend we all managed to have a wander around and see some of the exhibits, albeit in a rush, and also managed to see a few trains run past the venue.

Malcolm and friend John, David S, Ian, Pam & husband Richard, David A & Joy as well as Jacob & Jim represented EMRC and all had a go at controlling the layouts. The few photos below were all I really had time to take, and only wish we could have had a decent photo of the whole group of us together... maybe next time!
Thanks to Joy for the use of some of her photos.
